Behavior Skills
This page is is dedicated to sharing and discussion of behavior issues. Unlike other skill areas, this is one area in which there is possibly an ENDLESS array of "items" that could be listed.
However, I will state with clearly at this point my over-riding mantra about behavior:
ALL BEHAVIOR IS COMMUNICATION
I have come to understand this statement over my 30+ years of work with ASD students and families. There is generally something that an individual is trying to "tell" (communicate) regardless of what the outward look of the person is at the moment.
I have learned over time, and with experience that only comes from repeated practice opportunities, that the "what" that all behavior communicates can generally "fit into" one of three categories:
"I Want..."
"I Don't Want..."
"I Already Have..."
Based on that description of my teaching and learning approach for behavior skills, post information will be written and responded to in a positive and non-judgmental manner. It is my INTENT to provide a way of thinking about behavior and behavior issues that will help readers view the 'scene' from another lens angle or never-before-considered perspective.
